How The Eye Works
The ability to see is dependent on the actions of several structures in and around the eyeball, as well as the brain. The easiest way to explain the normal functioning of the eye is to compare it with a camera. A camera is made up of a lens whose role is to focus the image onto the film of the camera. The film then processes the image. Although much more complex, the eye works in a similar way
When you look at an object, light rays are reflected from the object to the cornea of the eye. These light rays are then bent and refracted by the cornea, enter through the pupil of the eye and are further focused by the lens of the eye into a sharp image on the retina. The retina then converts the light rays into electrical impulses, which are then transmitted through the optic nerve, to the brain, where the impulses are processed and translated into an image.
